Dear Residents,
Neighbourhood Watch has reported that DISTRACTION BURGLARIES are increasing….
Some common tactics used are :
- Asking to use your phone as their phone has broken down.
- Pretending to be from a Gas/Water Company saying a problem exists in the road or garden.
- Pretending to be Police Officers or Council Officials.
- Trying to sell you a household product that you may wish to try.
- They are often working pairs or teams.
Neighbourhood Watch Advice:
- Keep the front door closed and locked
- No need to open the door and engage
- Do not leave your door open and go into the garden
- Do not bother to check ID cards – these can be easily faked
- Display a NW “NO COLD CALLING” home sticker at front door
- Install a security camera.
- IF YOU’RE NOT SURE DON’T OPEN THE DOOR!
- Call the Police 999 or ask a neighbour or CRA member if you feel at risk.
What is the CRA doing to help?
- Tripling the number of large NW signs at bollards and on Telegraph poles in road.
- Issuing new NW and “WE DO NOT BUY AT THIS DOOR” stickers for front doors.
- Sending this note on Chalklands Updates and on the CRA Website.
- Delivering this note and stickers to all 100 houses in Chalklands.
- Visiting and giving advice/support to residents, particularly lone householders.
If you see anything suspicious, please raise with a member of the committee or on the Chalklands WhatsApp group.
