Scam and fraud calls in the area :-
We have had a series of fraud cases across South Bucks
This involved suspects pretending to be police officers by giving shoulder numbers of serving officers, unfortunately there has been victims who have lost substantial amounts of money as a result of these scams.
This scam will likely proceed in the following way:
Scammers will call claiming to be a police officer and explain there is a problem with your bank account. They may state there are corrupt staff at your chosen bank, or that your bank details have been cloned and they now require your assistance with their investigation.
They will instruct you to transfer money into a secure account that they will claim is in your name, in addition they may ask you to provide cash, vouchers or valuable items to a courier. In reality, this bank account will belong to the scammers and a victim will end up transferring money straight to them, any cash or valuables handed over will be delivered directly to them also.
If you receive a call like this, it is best to end it. Police will never ask you to transfer or withdraw money, provide valuables or buy items on their behalf. They will also never request bank cards or ask for your pin. If unsure, you can contact the police and ask them to verify the validity of any call from someone claiming to be an officer.
You could also receive a call of this nature from scammers claiming to be your bank or the tax office, so be vigilant.
